Release of Integrated Agriculture and Livestock Census of Bhutan 2025

The National Statistical Bureau reports improved crop production in 2024 compared to the previous year, with increases in major crops such as paddy, maize, quinoa, potato, vegetables, and fruits. Most vegetables, including chili (+15%, 5,596 MT) and beans (+16%, 1,784 MT), saw gains, except for tomato, asparagus, and cabbage. Fruit production also increased marginally, with new crops like almond (4.57 MT), chestnut (0.71 MT), pecan nut (0.88 MT), and cherry (0.22 MT) introduced through the Million Fruit Tree Plantation (MFTP) project. Favorable weather conditions, government support (irrigation, fencing, land development, mini power-tillers), and promotion of new varieties were some of the reasons for a good agricultural year.
