The sight of the lush green paddy fields transforming into golden hues gratifies everyone of us but for the farmers, it elicits emotion. For them, it is a moment of joy and with great excitement they look forward to bountiful harvest. However, the withdrawal of the monsoon is expected to be delayed like in recent years. And as a result, unusual rainfall may be expected in Bhutan during the retreating phase of the monsoon which generally coincides with the harvesting season in the country.
Owing to the low pressure over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and North East India, light to moderate rainfall is likely over western and southern parts of the country on the 4th and 5th October, 2022. Rest of the regions can expect light rainfall during the same period. The National Center for Hydrology and Meteorology will issue the updates if there are significant changes in the forecast and the Agrometeorology Program of the Department of Agriculture will “keep a weather eye on” the forecast to relay the message to our farming communities.
